Artist statement
An interdisciplinary artist particularly interested in the language of contemporary drawing, through making works in a range of media exploring what might be perceived as the boundaries of drawing. Utilising line, print, installation and photography, my work investigates representations of life, human relationship and landscape. Recurrent themes include the interplay between presence and absence, traces and imbued narrative, using space and scale; evidencing what is present and yet concealed.
Engaged in a journey of exploration and discovery; I feel compelled to make art and continue to be fascinated in artwork which considers our interrelationship with the world around us. Motivated and intrigued by materiality within my work; materials frequently offer both the source of my inspiration and a connection to the instinctive resolution. Sometimes it is not possible to decipher which came first - the material or the concept.
Through personal exploration and intervention I strive to make sense of the world. My work is often quiet and meditative, process driven offering a transformation of the ordinary into the extraordinary.
